As we get older it becomes harder for us to lose weight. We get to the point where we have less energy, and less time to work out. Lets face it, less drive to push ourselves. There are some easy changes that we can make to help us lose weight. Of course, as we all know, a combination of diet and exercise is the best way to lose weight and keep it off.
However, there are some other ways to accomplish our goals. Be aware, though, that what works for one person may not work for another. Everyone is different. Everyone’s metabolism and body chemistry is slightly different, which is why I am me, and you are you
First, and most important, is to set an attainable goal. Write it down. Set it as a daily reminder in your phone. Post it on your refrigerator. Anywhere that will be seen daily.
Avoid sugars and carbohydrates. These have been shown to add no positive impacts on your body. They only harm the body.
Increase your water intake. It has been shown that the majority of our daily calories are from liquids so increase water and decrease sugars and increase natural drinks such as water and tea.
Avoid alcohol. It adds pointless calories into the body plus it can cause numerous complications to many different types of medical conditions.
Cut out junk food completely. The amount of calories found in most junk foods can easily shoot you up and over your daily limits fast. Plus they give you no substantial vitamins or minerals.
Increase fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat salads for meals. Have an apple for a snack. Blend up a smoothie for a meal. These items have very few calories and decent amounts of vitamins and minerals.
Do cardio workouts for at least 30 minutes a day. This means outside of your regular routines, such as work. It is important to raise your heart rate up (to a safe level) so that your body can burn fat. I suggest something easy on your joints such as walking or biking.
Lifting weights is a great way to drop the fat and gain muscle, or to tone the muscle depending on what look you are going for. Either way it is an important part of losing weight because it kicks your body into overdrive. Be sure to do interval workouts and complete body workouts.
Track your food. Find out what your ideal calorie intake is for your age and weight and plug in the amount of weight that you want to lose. There are numerous applications and trackers available on the market to help you with this step. It is important to track your progress.
Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. It will start your metabolism and get your digestive system working. It doesn't, and shouldn't, be a huge greasy or sugary table full of food. Something fast and simple like a yogurt and some fruit or some scrambled eggs.
Ingest the majority of your calories in the AM. Your body needs time to process what you ingest. Eating before you go to bed does not allow your body to digest properly so most of the calories turn to fat.
In order to burn calories and lose weight stay active. As we get older this can be very difficult, especially if we are having some health issues. Basically do as much as you can without causing yourself injury. The more you do, the longer you will be able to stay active, and the better off you will be in the end.
Instead of frying everything bake it. This will cut down on a lot of grease and fats that go along with it. Another great option to frying is grilling.
Portion control is a very important aspect of weight loss for older men. It may seem like you are starving yourself but we actually do not need that second plate of food, or that second helping of rice.
Just remember that you are doing this for you. It doesn't really matter what the people around you are thinking. If they push you do go out and eat fast food, or pizza, or they want to go on a drinking binge. You have to look out for what is best for you and your health. Weight loss for older men is not easy but if you put your mind to it, stick to it, and push ahead you can do it. Do not give up, don't give in on the bad days, and move forward one day at a time. You will achieve your goals.
