COOKING A HAM IN AN OSTER ROASTING OVEN

Updated: Jan 30, 2020

Cooking a ham in a conventional oven is definitely a concept of the past. Using an Oster Roasting Oven, or any other brand of roasting oven, is the best way to go. It not only frees up your oven for other dishes, but the roaster oven will cook the main dish faster and better.

When cooking a ham in an Oster there is no need to wrap it in foil. You can glaze the ham if you choose to. You can also pin pineapple rings to it if you want. Personally I simply cook the ham and then add my sides to it during the meal.

The rule of thumb to follow is 18 to 24 minutes per pound when cooking a half ham with the bone in. A whole ham with the bone in will range from 15 to 20 minutes per pound. As when cooking any type of meat always verify the internal temperature. For ham it should be at least 145 degrees. Since you are using an Oster Roaster Oven, or some other brand, be sure to check it on a regular basis so it does not overcook.

In order to cook a ham in a Roaster Oven follow these easy steps:

  • Place 2 cups of water in the bottom of the roaster oven tray and preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

  • Once preheated place the ham into the oven fat side up.

  • Inject the ham with apple juice to ensure it stays moist and juicy.

  • Cover and set the timer. If you are going to glaze the ham make sure to do so about ⅔ of the way through the cooking process

Be sure to check the ham on a regular basis. Cooking with an Oster Roasting Oven will cook faster and more evenly so you want to make sure that the ham does not overcook. Also be sure that the roaster oven does not run out of water in the bottom. The natural juices from the ham will drip and pool in the bottom but ham will dry out fast if fluids are not kept in the bottom of the tray. Be sure to check the internal temperature before eating and making sure that the ham is at least 145 degrees inside in various areas before serving it.
